Bow residents are seeking a town-wide vote to impose a one-year moratorium on data center permitting and construction, targeting a proposal to turn the former Merrimack Station power plant into a server hub.

The advocacy group Protect New Hampshire collected more than 800 signatures from Bow voters and delivered the petition to the planning board. Residents say a pause is needed to assess possible health risks, noise disturbances and damage to the environment.

The planning board voted unanimously to refine the ordinance and set a public hearing for December 3. Board member Kip McDaniel warned that differing town policies could let developers shift negative impacts to neighboring communities and urged a state‑level approach to ensure equal treatment.
