Artisan chocolatier Geri Martin and addiction recovery advocate Gary Rutherford were honored with honorary awards at the North West Regional College graduation ceremony for the Class of 2026. The ceremony took place on October 30 at the Millennium Forum and marked the sixth year NWRC has presented such awards to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the community, skills development, and industry.
Geri Martin, founder and chief chocolatier of The Chocolate Manor, began her chocolate venture during maternity leave after taking a College course, and launched the business in 2012 from her home kitchen. The brand has grown into one of Northern Ireland’s most recognised artisan chocolate makers, supported by NWRC’s Foodovation Centre and her role as chair of Taste Causeway CIC, where she helps develop a Foodovation and Skills Centre for the Causeway Coast and Glens Growth Deal.
Gary Rutherford, founder and CEO of ARC Fitness, established the organisation in 2019 after completing an Access course at NWRC and training as a mental health nurse, using physical activity and community support to aid addiction recovery. Having achieved long‑term recovery himself, he has helped many people improve their wellbeing and was previously honoured with the Royal College of Nursing Nurse of the Year Award and the Northern Ireland regional Pride of Britain Award.
