Hanover supervisors of the checklist held a public voter‑registration meeting at Town Hall on Oct. 28 to register residents ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm election.
According to town clerk Tracy Walsh, 200 people have registered since the Oct. 13 session at the Hopkins Center for the Arts with Dartmouth Civics, and supervisor Patricia Dewhirst reported 550 registrations since Jan. 1, 2026; the Oct. 28 meeting was the last in‑person opportunity before same‑day registration on Election Day.
Supervisors Dewhirst, Alison Gorman and Marcia Kelly explained that the gathering also aimed to shorten lines on Election Day and respond to recent state rulings that limit the use of school‑issued IDs, a decision the U.S. Supreme Court upheld on Oct. 28 after earlier court decisions.
Dartmouth Civics co‑president Will Nelson noted that the organization will run walking trains every 30 minutes from Collis Center to the polls and has added volunteers to guide new voters, while supervisors said voter engagement this year matches prior midterms and they are monitoring potential chokepoints to ensure adequate staffing and fair ballot access.
