A gunman opened fire in Krakow’s Main Square, killing five people and wounding more than a dozen.
The attack occurred Saturday afternoon in the busy tourist destination, where the perpetrator, a Polish citizen, drove into the square wearing military‑style fatigues and used a military‑type long gun.
Police responded, shooting and wounding the gunman after a brief gunfight, and discovered additional weapons and ammunition in his car.
Polish officials, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Karol Nawrocki, condemned the violence, while U.S. ambassador Tom Rose expressed solidarity.
Mass shootings are rare in Poland, and the Main Square attracts around 15 million tourists each year.
