Carprice Williams, a 36‑year‑old former teacher and foster mother, has been charged with the murder of her 10‑year‑old foster daughter, Malayshia Allford. The Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner described the killing as a brutal murder.
According to the criminal complaint, Williams allegedly threw Allford down stairs, denied her food and water, and forced her to wear a weighted vest while walking, then tried to cover up the death by texting from the child’s phone. A prior 2021 case in which a 4‑year‑old girl nearly died from severe abuse and malnutrition led state officials to recommend that she be barred from fostering, but she continued to care for children.
Attorney Nadeem Bezar of Kline & Specter said the child welfare agencies should not have permitted Williams to foster additional children after the earlier case. Former parents have reported that she was mean, browbeat, and broke the confidence of the children in her care. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Community Services and Children’s Choice declined to comment, and the school district said it could not discuss her employment.
